Its All About Golf Club Heads!Putters Putter heads are an essential piece of golf equipment. They also have the simplest job. All they have to do is hit the ball with the face perpendicular to the path of the swing. This action gets the hole with very little energy transfer. Due to the mechanical simplicity of this event you will find an infinite array of putter head shapes, sizes and designs. You will also find that they are made of all different types of materials. Since putting puts most of the efforts on the mental side of the golfer, the technical aspects of the putter heads are fairly simple. Woods These golf club heads are the largest of all the different club heads. They take on a shape similar to a bubble with one side that is flat known as the club face. These heads are designed to make the ball travel huge distances (sometimes more than 300 yards) with one single blow. This unique shape is designed so the club glides over the grass smoothly without digging into the turf. They are constructed of different materials (usually strong light metals) such as alloy, graphite, boron, titanium, steel and many others. These woods have a hollow center with the weight being distributed to the exterior parts of the heads. This distribution of weight is different for each manufacturer depending on their design. Usually it is put towards the bottom and back of the club to help launch the ball into the air. The club face is made with extremely hard materials to produce a springing effect upon contact with the ball. Both the mass and size of the head and the spring or bounce off the face must confine to PGA rules. Irons Iron club heads are designed for shorter more controlled shots. Most irons made today (90%) are casted in a mould that is made by the manufacturers. The rest of the irons are made or shaped by forging (hammering hot metal under great pressure). Casting has become the most popular because it is easier to produce the complex shapes of today's cavity-backed and perimeter-weighted designs with strict specifications. It is also cheaper to produce clubs by casting. However, the design of forged irons will never disappear because the better golfers feel they get better control with these cleaner looking club heads. These club heads are made of all different types of modern metals. Learn more about golf club heads |
