Golf Lob Wedges Take It Higher
Lob wedges are one of the coolest clubs in your bag. These clubs are relatively
new to the market and are catching on very quickly. They are not included in
your set and must be purchased separately at your local retailer or proshop.
These clubs are also known as finesse clubs are mainly used for "touch" shots
around the green. These are shots that have to be lifted into the air quickly
and land softly.
The golf lob wedge is the shortest and highest lofted of all the irons in a golfers
bag. The loft on these clubs varies between 60 and 65 degrees with some clubs
going even higher in loft than that. They will have very little to no bounce on
the bottom of club. This is because of the situations from which these clubs are
used. They're usually from tight lies where there's no room under the ball and
you want the club to skim under the ball and not bounce of the ground. They will
have a sharp leading edge that also helps with these situations.
These wedges can also be used from the fairway or rough and generally fly about 70 yards. The trajectory is a very steep arc that launches the ball way up into the air that allows it to stop abruptly on the green. It is a great asset to have when you have to fly a shot over a bunker and have it stop quickly on the green. Lob wedges will put a lot of spin on the golf ball when struck cleanly. They're also very good out the deep rough next to the green because you are able to get the ball up quickly and out of trouble. One of the main reasons golfers like the golf lob wedge is due to the fact that it allows them to take a large full swing and cover only a short distance. It's almost reducing the time for error when you have to make one of those half delicate swings with your other wedges. The ball ends up flying short and high. If you haven't got one of these great finesse clubs in your bag, than go to your local pro shop pick one up. Then proceed to the range and see what hitting one of these great new lob wedges is all about.
