Buying Womens Golf Equipment For The Lady Beginner

Buying Womens Golf Equipment Doesn't Have To Be Traumatic!

Before heading to the store to buy womens golf equipment, it would be a good idea to delve into golf terminology if you are unfamiliar with the lingo of the game. If you are a complete beginner, a store salesperson throwing all kinds of strange words such as driver, putter, grips, shafts and irons could be scary enough to make you rethink golf altogether. All along, you thought you only needed a set of clubs, some balls and a tee or two. If you learn the terminology, the whole shopping experience will be more comfortable and more likely to be productive.

Is Expensive Womens Golf Equipment Necessarily Better?

Many players, even those who are well experienced, fall into the trap of thinking that the more expensive the equipment, the better their game will be. This is absolute nonsense; do you really think a $1000 driver will fix your bad swing? Just because you pay a high price for your equipment does not mean it will make you Super Golf Woman. In golf, it is proper equipment selection that makes for a better game; not expensive equipment. This holds especially true for the beginner golfer.

How to Choose the Right Ladies Golf Equipment

If you are of average height and build, it is best to buy standard length clubs. This will enable you to hit the ball on center to increase accuracy and distance more often than if you used clubs that were too big and too heavy for you.

Recently, driver heads made of lightweight Titanium and Ultra-light graphite shafts have made it possible to extend standard driver lengths from 43-43½ "to 44-46". This has created a Catch 22. Longer drivers equal longer drive distance due to higher club head speed; this is a good thing. The down side to a longer driver is that it is harder to control and thus, less accurate; this is a bad thing. Ladies, if in doubt about the length of driver you need, get help from a local pro. Get out on a course and let the pro analyze your skill and style. After seeing you in action the pro will likely have some very valuable suggestions for obtaining the right equipment for you.

As a beginner, you most certainly won't need a set of clubs like Tiger Woods'. First of all, it would be extremely costly and second, they would be too hard for a beginner to play. Save your money for golf lessons rather than buying overly expensive equipment; golf lessons would be the better investment for a beginner.

Factors to Consider When Buying your First Golf Set

Another factor to consider for ladies choosing a first golf set, women's swing speed is generally lower than that of men. Women need woods and clubs to increase the loft of the ball to get greater distance. Beginners always find that woods are the easiest to use so women should choose larger headed, flat soled woods for a better game while learning. Any beginner should use 3, 5, and 7 woods that are slightly shortened for increased control and lengthened trajectory.

The best driver for a woman beginner is one with a large, lightweight Titanium head. If you have any problems hitting, try placing your grip an inch or so lower and if you have issues with slicing, try an offset head. The optimal putter will be one with a large, mallet type head for great stability and increased accuracy.

Does Better Equipped Mean You Will Have a Better Game?

You can carry up to 14 clubs but as a beginner you won't need that many. Most golf pros recommend eliminating the 3 & 4 irons which are lengthy and most beginners cannot control them.

A lady beginner's golf set should begin at the 5 or 6 irons and go through to the sand wedge and pitching wedge. For long shots you will need lofted fairway woods 3 and 5 plus the 3, 4, and 5 hybrid clubs. As you play you will learn which of these work the best for you.

Until your games improves, carry only the clubs you like and feel comfortable using. Leave the others from the set at home until you improve to the point you need them.
